Melvin Ct Apartments – Kitchen Fire

On Sunday shortly after 9:00 pm, stations 222, 225, and 227 were alerted for a possible apartment on fire. While units were enroute to the scene Allegheny County 911 updated units that there was a female stuck in her apartment, overcome by smoke and unable to evacuate. 227 Chief arrived on scene shortly thereafter with smoke showing from the second division of the structure. 227 Truck arrived and crews pulled a line and made entry into the building. 225 Truck arrived and crews from 225 laddered the structure. 227 Truck crew found a pot of burnt food on the stove on fire and removed it from the structure. 225 and 227 crews both made a search of the apartment and found the homeowner had been safely extricated by police. 222 and 227 Engine crews ventilated the structure. Penn Hills Fire Marshall (516FM1) was requested to the scene by command and is currently investigating the cause.
